It was a little before noon on Wednesday, October 28, 2009.

Sharon Larson and her daughter Tammy stopped at the Summit Park

Grange in Anna-Cortis, Washington when they saw something that looked suspicious.

They noticed two cars, a white station wagon and a black SUV, parked back to back,

a couple of feet apart from each other, in the sectioned-off area behind the Grange building.

The back ends of both vehicles were open, and a man with dark hair,

his arms wrapped around what looked like a large roll of plastic,

was going back and forth between the two vehicles.

It was odd enough that Tammy decided to call 911 to report a trespass,

while Sharon wrote down the license plate number of the SUV,

as it was pulling out and leaving the parking lot.

Scadget County Sheriff Deputy Patrick DuHame responded to the scene.

The black SUV was gone, but the white station wagon was still there.

The windows were up, but the car itself was unlocked.

Deputy DuHame looked inside and saw a set of keys and prescription glasses on the seat.

The back seat of the station wagon was down, and there was a blanket in the back,

as though someone had perhaps been sleeping back there.

He thought the car smelled like a dog had been inside of it,

and there was dog hair on the seats.

Deputy DuHame then examined the entrance to the lot,

and saw that one of the chain links had been cut.

He walked back over to the vehicle and left some business cards on it,
