Summary

Today we're back to literary matchmaking, with listener Melodee Skiles here to representing all the avid audiobook lovers who want to know what to LISTEN to next!  Melodee is a stay-at-home mom who owns an online literature tutorial business. Books are (clearly) her bag, and while she's taking a short break from tutoring, she wants to revitalize her love of literature by reading outside the bounds of the texts she teaches at work. Like many of us, some of Melodee's warmest memories are of her parents reading aloud to her, so today she and Anne are delving into what her favorites have been, what her least favorites have been, and what brilliant audiobook discoveries are right around the corner. (Wink, wink.) Click over to the podcast website for the full list of titles discussed in this episode, and leave us a comment to let us know what YOU think Melodee should read next! I find that I kind of have a decision paralysis when it comes to audiobooks that I don't have

when it comes to paper books because it feels like more of investment to me.

It takes longer to listen to a book than it does to read it and the narrator can really make or

break it. And so I really have been enjoying listening to audiobooks more recently, but

I'm not listening to as many as I want to because I don't know what to listen to next.

Every week we'll talk all things books and reading and do a little literary matchmaking with one guest.

Today's guest came to me with a special request and one that's a little more challenging for me

1:01.6

than usual. Melody wants to find books she'll love that she feels are completely perfect for her,

1:06.8

but on top of that she wants them to be great audiobooks. And she doesn't mean great books

1:11.7

that are available on audio. She means books where the narrator makes the experience,

1:16.4

elevating it to something completely different than enjoying the words on the page.

1:20.5

I love a good audio book myself so I was up for the challenge. Let's get to it.

1:25.3

Melody, welcome to the show. Thank you so much for having me and I'm delighted to be on.

1:30.3

Well, you really sold me on your pitch for what you wanted to talk about today, but first,

1:34.9

I'd love to hear a little history about yourself and your reading life.

1:38.8

Sure. Well, I'm an English lit teacher from Role Montana. I'm actually taking a break from

1:44.6

teaching right now because I'm in the raising young children years. I have a 15-month-old daughter
