A recent Twitter Spaces conversation about Juneteenth left Jason doubling down on his premise that the celebration as a national holiday cannot be decoupled from the death of George Floyd and the summer of the Black Lives Matter riots. And therein lies the issue that white Americans have with Juneteenth: “Ushering in a holiday on the back of George Floyd ... ain't got nothing to do with freedom and liberty [and] has everything to do with rubbing it in people's faces and being divisive and being racially idolatrous.
