Like millions of you, I saw the horrible video of a nine-year-old girl in Rochester, New York.

Let me back up just a little bit.

A nine-year-old black girl, and I think that's essential to the story.

A nine-year-old black girl, brutally assaulted, pepper sprayed, and handcuffed,

thrown into the back of a police car during what was supposed to be a family dispute.

And she is screaming for her father the entire time.

I want to start by asking you to remember what you were like, who you were when you were nine years old.

She's a baby.

I have a daughter who's just about that age. She's a baby.

And the idea that anybody would pepper spray a nine-year-old child in the face

is absurd and infuriating.

And I want to make a few key points today, not only about change, reform, but also about reality.

And it's taken me a few days.

That video infuriated me so much I couldn't post it.

I felt just a real sense of rage and anger and hurt for her and for us.
