So today we're going to talk to someone who many of you are probably familiar with his name is Rick Perlstein and he has

He's he's he's Rick is one of those rare people, a non-academic or non-primarily academic historian, he's done a series of books that sort of chronicle the rise of the American right over the last more

than 50 years now going back to the early 1960s.

There is a famous book on Goldwater,

another on Nixon.

You know, if I, I'll misstate something if I go too far, but, but, uh,

Rick is one of the most knowledgeable people in the United States about the conservative

movement and the rise of the conservative movement. He's a prolific writer. He

writes a lot outside of his books. In any case, today we are going to talk to him because as I think

we've discussed before, TPM in 2018 is doing a major series on voting rights and democracy.

It is a 10-part series that we're doing in the second half of this year.

The second installment is by Rick and his co-author Olivia Gershahn.

And then we actually just today, and when I say today, Thursday, I think this episode will come out today or tomorrow

on Friday.

We have a new piece out by Rachel Cohen, and that is about gerrymandering and the all the voting rights

groups progressive groups that are mobilizing to get us back to a political system where if you get the most

votes you win, right?

Which is not, which is not necessarily the case anymore, especially in House of Representatives.
