The following is an accounting of my expenditures during investigation of the dead first helpers.

Expense account, item one, $83.24. Plain fare to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania,

a land of chimneys and open hearth furnaces,

where I met supervisor Joel Barrett.

All of them first helpers. What's the first helper? Well, it goes like this. The Meltter foreman is in charge of a number of furnaces. The first helper is in charge of an individual furnace.
