great interview to replay for you. Our guest today is Camilla, aka Ms. Hair and Humor, aka the

Nautilus Queen. She's a braider based in Brooklyn, New York, and the founder of Nautilus Nation,

where she teaches Nautilus braiding techniques. Listen, if you have braids or you've worn them in

the past, some of the info in the beginning may seem basic to you, but every braider has a different

philosophy. So, you know, for prepping care, so we wanted to hear Camilla's. We also decided to

rerun this interview now because there has been some interesting updates on some of the things we

discussed since this originally air. So in the interview, you'll hear Camilla mentions the lack

of black hair education in cosmology licensing here in New York State, where she's based and

where we're based. So she told us back then, this was in 2019, that she reached out to the board to

see if there was anything being done to change that. I talked to her just last week, and she said

she never got a direct reply from New York State, but since we originally spoke, she has been

working with others in the industry to make some noise on this front, and I can report the good

things are happening. So most, I don't know if you guys know this, but most cosmology curriculums,

especially here in New York, use a standard Malady cosmology text. The most recent edition was

published back in 2015. It does have a chapter and some info that focuses on natural and textured

hair, but really it lacks a lot of the info that's important, and a lot of cosmology schools don't

even teach to it, and some of the exams don't include that information. Well, Camilla told me she

actually helped name an activist Instagram account. It's called Don't Skip Chapter 18, and that

group's been working to make improvements to the cosmology education system. It seems like

Malady heard them, and others working on this, because the 14th edition of the text, which is

due out later this year, is reportedly going to have more information. They held panel discussions
