0:06.0	Now I know it's just another day in 2020, but I am hoping that this month is not full of all of the tough difficult tragic news

0:24.8	I want to start this month off with some good news. Last night in California, a bill that we were fighting for at the Grassroots
0:29.5	Law Project, the Racial Justice Act passed through both the State Assembly and State Senate.
0:39.2	It will now be on the desk of the Governor. I want to unpack and explain what the bill is how it got
0:47.0	to this point and how you can duplicate this in your city and your county and in your
0:52.3	state so we can keep fighting for change.

1:36.8	about this good news episode. Last night in California, yesterday was the final day of the legislative session.
1:50.0	I won't take all episode to explain what that means, but in our 50 states, each state has a state
1:58.4	legislature and they operate according to a calendar that doesn't necessarily go from January through December.
2:07.1	The legislative calendar normally goes from July to July or August to August or September to September.
2:17.0	And they have breaks in between.
2:20.0	And because of quarantine quarantine legislative calendars have just been turned upside down
2:28.0	are really out of whack and so yesterday was the final day of this legislative calendar year for the California State
