Welcome to Talking Scripture. I'm Mike. And I'm Bryce. And today we're going to be in section

6 through 9 of the Doctrine Covenants. These early sections deal with the Lord teaching the

saints how to hear his voice, how to receive revelation.

To give you a little bit of background, in the fall of 1828, Oliver Cowderie is teaching school,

and he's boarding with the Smith family. And 120, 130 miles away from this experience in Palmyra,

Joseph is in Pennsylvania. And he's with Emma, and the Lord has

told him in March to hold off on translating the plates, that to wait for a little bit,

and the Lord's going to send him some help. And little does Joseph know that Oliver Cowdery's

being prepared. Oliver Cowdery, when he's boarding with the Smith family far away in New York,

hears about Joseph Smith, and he hears about the plates.

And he starts to quiz Joseph Smith's father and asking questions about the plates and about what's

happening.

And he eventually starts talking to him about these things.

And Oliver Cowdery goes, and he eventually starts talking to him about these things. And Oliver

Cowdery goes and he asks the Lord, which right away doesn't that show us Bryce about Oliver's

heart? That's right. And we're going to get really into the rules of Revelation and Oliver just

knocks them out of the park instinctively. And one of those early ones that we're

going to talk about is revelation has to be sought. The Lord just doesn't come down and hit us with a two by four
