Ashley Fantz often covers police press conferences as part of her day job at CNN. But a few years ago she would attend one that would set her on a months long journey, forensically piecing together the evidence to reveal the systematic destruction of vital police evidence.
This is the story of how a team at CNN revealed widespread issues in sexual assault investigations, across the USA.

1:32.7 | And I had to kind of pick my chin off of the floor. |
1:34.9 | I wondered, how could this happen? |

1:43.3 | I was imagining some, you know, Barney Fife going into the evidence room and tripping over stuff and contaminating it all in one fell swoop. |
1:44.8 | So I knew I had to find out more. |
1:50.3 | Leaving the press conference, Ashley was in shock. The police officer had admitted openly that a force had destroyed more than 300 rape kits. What did that mean, Ashley wanted to know? |
