The Pennsylvania Game Commission reported last month that someone has been dropping dog treats stuffed with fishing lures or fish hooks on the Apple ancient trail.

The Commission posted images of the booby-trapped treats on Facebook and warn dog owners to be careful about what their pup

ingest while near the Lehi Gap Nature Center in the eastern portion of the state.

Some on social media wondered whether someone inadvertently dropped their fishing bait,

but those who found the treats said it looked like they'd been spread out intentionally,

and photos show that most of the hooks were stuffed all the way into the treat making it impossible to attach a fishing line.

Why someone would do such a thing is a question better answered for a psychologist or, you know,

maybe a priest.

We don't dive into the depths of human depravity,

but I can tell you this is not the first time someone has tried to kill canines

enjoying public spaces with their owners.

Back in 2022, someone dropped ibuprofen laced hot dogs on hiking trails surrounding Pocatello, Idaho. Three dogs got sick and one died from the poison frs and no one was ever convicted.

Just last year in France, four dogs died after eating poison meatballs someone had strewn

along a cross-country racetrack.

No one was convicted and motive was never discovered, but authorities did say the perpetrator likely used gloves to mix the poison to hide his or her fingerprints.

Interesting.

I guess the moral of the story is that if you ever spot a meatball in an unlikely place,

don't eat it. It's too good to be true.
