Hey everybody, it's Tom Woods and this is episode 2655 of the Tom Wood Show. We're going to do something a little different today. I don't do nearly as much public speaking as I used to. Now and then I still do it, but I prefer to have my travel be for pleasure these days rather than flying this way and that to give a speech. I'd rather just do the podcast

and reach many more people that way. But anyway, I look back fondly on my days flying around

speaking. And this particular talk that I want to share with you today, I've shared before,

but it's been years and years and years, and I'm very happy with it. It's called Four Things

the state is not, and I delivered

it at the Mezes Institute, at their Mezes University summer program for students.

And I think it raises the kinds of issues that aren't going to be raised in, you know,

elementary, middle, or high school, and certainly not in college. And I think we need to

take these things into account when evaluating our views of the state

and what it is likely to be able to do and what it's likely going to wind up doing

when we entrust it with responsibilities.

And I think these days there is a risk among some people on the right of falling back into an old naivete about the state.

And we can't do that.

You can't possibly do that.

This institution is terrible and we need to remember that.
