I grew up in New York devouring the writings of big city columnists like Jimmy Brezzlin

and Pete Hamill who came to reflect their city and then I moved to Chicago where Mike

Reiko was the man he was Chicago.

In Boston, that guy was Mike Barnacle who dominated the city for years with his daily column,

now can be seen on a regular basis on the morning Joe show.

I sat down with Mike the other day to talk about newspapering his beloved Red Sox and the

state of the world.

Mike Barnacle, it is great to be with you.

As we've discussed many times and we'll talk about it a little later, I am the product

of big city newspapering, both career wise and I grew up in New York reading Brezzlin

and Hamill and all those guys.

And you were part of that class of people who represented their city so well every other

day in the newspaper.

But before we get to all of that, I want to talk about how you got there and about how

you grew up and how that shaped who you are.

Yeah, well, I mean, literally newspapering, daily columns, we are literally talking about

another century.

Yeah.

Well, just newspapers alone.
