For 27 years, Sally Yates was a highly regarded federal prosecutor, U.S. attorney, and ultimately

deputy attorney general.

But she burst into the national consciousness during the 10 days that she served as acting

attorney general at the beginning of the Trump administration, when she refused to defend

the president's travel ban.

Subsequently, when it was revealed that she had worn the White House counsel about the

vulnerability of their national security adviser, Michael Flynn.

I sat down this week with Sally Yates for my Axviles on CNN TV show.

Sally Yates, it's so good to be with you.

You've spent so much of your life in rooms just like this, in court rooms.

You come from a long line of lawyers.

We'll talk about that a little later.

But what does the rule of law mean to you?

How do you define that, this principle that you so embrace?

You know, you're right.

I do come from a long line of lawyers.

In the concept of the rule of law is something I grew up around.

And I think sort of boiled down to its essence.

It's the concept that our laws apply equally to everyone and that no one is above the law
