Hello and welcome back to Hardcore Literature. Before we dive into the show, I'd just like to say thank you for everyone who's been getting involved, sharing their reading adventures with me, emailing in and signing on to the Hardcore Literature Book Club. Listeners and readers have been asking for a book club for a little while now and I've finally put one in place.

It's been a lot of work but it's already been thoroughly rewarding and I'm

excited for it to kick off. The first book we'll be reading together is Tostoy's

Anna Kerenina and we'll be doing a slow deep reading of the novel over 8 to 10

weeks.

You'll also get a supplementary reading list for each week,

which is modelled on the reading lists.

Our Oxford tutors used to give us for our tutorials.

The first week will have us explore in Plato, Peter, Pushkin, Mill, Mozart,

Strauss, Bodil, and more.

And there will be a bunch of tasks and assignments with the

aim of deepening your reading journey and connecting you with the themes and characters of the work.

Thank you to those who have recommended I go the Patreon route for the book club. It seems like

people love the tier reward system and the membership aspects so we'll be using that we're kicking off

the anna carina book club lectures from the 14th of february that's valentine's day 2021 so yes this

announcement could well be out of date depending on when you're listening to the show but that

means more content and here is the spring syllabus book club reading schedule

for 2021. February, we're doing Anna Karenina and we're doing a poetry appreciation series of

classes on Shakespeare's sonnets, the first 17. That's the Brock Creation sequence. April

2021, we're doing crime and punishment by

Dostoevsky. We're also doing short story appreciation classes on stories by Anton Chekhov and

Ivan Tarjanov. We'll also look at poetry by Emily Dickinson and Robert Browning. May,
