Summary

This is a deeply special episode with two women who are beyond inspiring and have been through the unthinkable. India & Catherine Oxenberg share the story of India’s joining, and eventually escaping, from the cult NXIVM / ESP led by Keith Raniere, and the unbreakable bond between mother and daughter that ultimately saved her. In the cult India experienced branding, sex trafficking, master slave rituals, and was not permitted to eat or sleep in a healthy way. Her mother Catherine was terrified for her life and went to the ends of the earth to get her daughter back.

India opens up about her experience in NXIVM, her mother Catherine’s experience trying for years to get her out, the sex trafficking that took place, the horrible rituals and abuse that took place, and more. THANK GOD, the cult leader Keith Raniere was recently sentenced to 120 years in prison, thanks in part to India’s victim impact statement & her mother’s diligent work to expose NXIVM, so this story does have a happy ending.

This conversation is beautiful, expansive, healing, heart-wrenching, and truly brave. We also go deep into spirituality and healing modalities both women have leaned on to overcome their trauma. Doing justice to their powerful story + the experiences they’ve been through in words is challenging, and you’ll need to hear it directly from them to truly understand.

**Also, TRIGGER WARNING: rape, branding, sex trafficking, coercion, cults.**

0:23.4

have you here. I have to be so honest with you guys and tell you that I have recorded this introduction a hundred times because I am so extremely

0:34.6

honored to have Catherine and India Oxenberg as my guests on today's podcast and doing them justice and the story they have to tell and the

0:45.0

experiences that both of these women have been through is just something that I am struggling to do in words and I'm truly enamored by both of these women and

0:58.0

everything they've been through and everything they continue to go through as they heal and meet new challenges on this journey and continue to unfold their beautiful lives as mother and daughter who are reunited.

1:12.2

So if you are unfamiliar with India and Catherine Oxenberg and their story, then oh my gosh, you guys have so much to learn and you are in for a treat because this episode is expansive, it's beautiful, it's healing, it's heart-wrenching, it's fascinating, it's so brave. And I do want to include a trigger warning in this episode. We discuss some heavy topics, topics that we have not yet discussed.

1:42.1

So I'm just on the balance bond show and topics that I'm very, very honored and privileged to be able to talk to these two women about which was all about India's experience in the sex cult next year, also known as executive success programs and her mother, Catherine's experience trying to get her out of this cult for many years.

2:05.2

So some of what India experienced in next year, we get into in this conversation, we don't get into all of it because I really would have needed to talk to them for hours and hours and hours to get all the info out and ask all the questions that I wanted to.

2:20.2

And I wanted this conversation to be able to flow in a really organic, really beautiful way and it definitely did.

2:27.0

So again, trigger warning, this is a conversation about cults and escaping a cult and these brave women's story of everything that they have been through.

2:38.4

So just some of what we get into in this episode was India's experience in next year and Catherine's experience trying to get her daughter out of next year once she realized she was in a dangerous situation.

2:49.3

And I will leave the rest up to India to tell her story, but I'm sure you've heard about next year and the branding, the sex trafficking, the racketeering, the horrible master's slave rituals in which India and other women were not allowed to eat a sufficient amount of calories were not allowed to get a sufficient amount of sleep.

3:11.4

And basically were forced to recruit other members in beneath them very, very dark and twisted. So I'm sure you've heard about next year because it has been all over the media lately in so many different ways and for so many different reasons because thank goodness Keith Reneere, the leader of the cult was sentenced to 120 years in prison.

3:34.8

Just a few weeks ago and India was present to give her victim impact statement. I'm so proud of her. It was so beautiful.

3:42.6

And you may have also heard of next year because of the vow on HBO which Catherine was featured very prominently in as well as seduced on stars, which is India's documentary that she produced and also starred in and shared her brave story.

3:59.8

So there is endless stuff to dive into when it comes to all things next year and beyond, which is also known as executive success programs and I just want to give a little brief background info here that I have been a die hard obsessed researcher of cults.

4:18.3

For as long as I can remember I have studied cult psychology coercion of the mind. I've been interested in it since I was a kid and I've probably been so interested in it because I've been a spiritual seeker for as long as I can remember since I was a young adolescent and I know that those of us were sensitive and those of us who are seeking a deeper meaning in life.

4:40.8

We're very susceptible to trusting people who could very easily take advantage and also we are not interested in living an average life a life where we just follow the status quo.

4:53.3

We are interested in living a deep life a life where we really seek who we are and ask those deeper questions and help the world in those deeper ways.

5:03.4

So I very much see how easy it could be to be coerced into something that seems like it is a beautiful self help program a beautiful community that is looking to make the world a better place and then eventually over time be broken down and ultimately brainwashed which is what happened to India and happened to many many other people specifically women and next year and then the deeper part of next year called a DOS.

5:32.4

So I could go on I'm really eager to get into this conversation and excited. I have to say this is one of my favorite episodes I've ever done on the podcast and this is the reason why I podcast this is the reason why I started this show in the first place is to talk to people who are truly and honestly doing amazing things for the world and sharing from the bravest most deep parts of their hearts in their minds.
