0:00.0 | Welcome to the Deconstructionist podcast. I'm your host John Williamson, and we are back with |
0:14.8 | Part 2 with Dr. Camden-Morgante. If you haven't listened to Part 1 yet, press pause and go back and listen to the |
0:21.8 | first part. If you've already listened to the first part, then enjoy Part 2. This is the second |
0:26.4 | half of my interview with her. Again, great book. Go check it out. Recovering for Purity |
0:31.8 | Culture. Dismantle the myths, reject shame-based sexuality, and move forward in your faith. |
0:37.6 | Available where all books are found. |
0:40.0 | And we'll have some links in the show notes as well. |
0:43.1 | But enjoy the second half, and we'll be back next week of the brand new guest. |
0:46.8 | But until then, I give you Dr. Camden, Fregan, Morgante. |

1:21.8 | do I really have to do that? That's a lot of work. And I'm already married. Like, what does it matter? And I get that. It is a lot of work. But I argue that it's important because if you have kids, |
1:29.3 | you have to kind of know what to teach them or what you believe in order to, like, what values |
1:33.5 | do I want to pass on to them. But then also just for yourself, it's very empowering to reconstruct |
1:40.0 | your sexual ethic to figure out what you believe and why and not just because the Bible says so, |
1:45.1 | because my pastor told me, because my parents told me, because this is what a good girl does |
1:49.5 | or a good guy does. It's empowering to do that work yourself. And it also helps you be more |
1:58.2 | clear on what choices you want to make if you know what your values are. |
2:03.6 | And so like later when we talk about shame, you know, like shame is not resolved by just saying like, |
2:09.9 | I'm just going to throw this all away and just go do whatever I want. |
2:13.9 | Like shame is resolved by really knowing what our values are and making choices aligned with those values. |
