The basic attack of liberalism is just about always the same. It takes different forms, but it's all, it always has to do with elevating human reason over scripture and saying we are going to adopt, you know, this framework and we're going to only take those parts of the Bible that we want to. We're putting ourselves over as judges of

what scripture teaches. So that was happening in the early 1900s, the debates over the authority

of scripture, the virgin birth, the bodily resurrection, the second coming of Christ. And so those were

some of the issues where you had some pastors

who said, well, we don't want to be divisive. We don't want to stake out a firm position on this.

about faith and politics, it doesn't take long for somebody to bring up the separation of church and state.

And often, the topic comes up when we're being warned about how dangerous it is to mix faith in politics.

And in fact, a lot of Christians are persuaded by that argument.

But, of course, if we're going to think Christianly about the subject, we have to remember that the Great Commission commands us to go into all the world and make disciples, teaching them to do all that He has commanded us to do.

Now, this doesn't just mean geographic locations in the world, but every sector of the world, every part of our community,

every part of our nation. So if we're going to be everywhere, sometimes we're going to be in

political places and political environments. So how has the church functioned in political places and political spaces? That's part of what we're

going to discuss today. My guest is Caleb Morel and he's the author of A Light on the Hill,

the surprising story of how a local church in the nation's capital influenced evangelicalism.
