In consultation with experts from within the unified command, the debris is consistent with the catastrophic loss of the pressure chamber.

Upon this determination, we immediately notified the families.

That was the news at 3 p.m. Eastern Time on Thursday, thus ending the search for the missing Titanic-Turist submersible and its five passengers.

According to the U.S. Coast Guard and ROV, or remote-operated vehicle, reach the ocean depths and scour the grounds around the original Titanic wreckage, and that's when the ROV found this.

Essentially, we found five different major pieces of debris that told us that it was the remains of the Titan.

The initial thing we found was a nose cone, which was outside of the pressure hull.

We then found a large debris field. Within that large debris field, we found the front end bell of the pressure hull.

That was the first indication that there was a catastrophic event.

Surely thereafter, we found a second smaller debris field. Within that debris field, we found the other end of the pressure hull, the aft end bell, which was basically the comprise of the totality of that pressure vessel.

So basically, the submersible suffered what's called catastrophic implosion, which refers to the sudden collapse of a vessel under immense pressure at great depths.

The submersible was diving towards the depth of nearly 13,000 feet where the Titanic wreckage rests.

Subjecting it to intense pressure, the implosion would have happened within a fraction of a millisecond, resulting in the collapse of the entire vessel.

The passengers could even realize the problem. The passengers would have been killed instantly, and experts believe it is unlikely that any bodies will ever be recovered.

Now, I need not tell you that the four day or deal searching for the missing submersible was the number one trending story across social media.

I mean, it was, after all, to say the least, unique, unique and drama that you actually had a race against time, countdown clocks, tracking the slowly depleting levels of oxygen that trapped passengers had.

Unique and circumstance, it was after all an extremist tourist expedition for the ultra wealthy, but it was also unique in the reaction it received, and that it became an occasion to widely and mercilessly mock the super rich.

The number of memes mocking the whole escapade were endless, even some social commentary where a number of people pointed out the contrast between the massive search and rescue effort that involved playing ships, submarines, subsea robots, and the like, capable of descending all the way to the ocean floor,

with the relatively measured and almost hesitant response to a recently capsized boat carrying hundreds of migrants in the Mediterranean.
