Hello and welcome to episode 162 of what most people think and finally the suspense is broken people. It's gonna be loose trust. I know.

So we've been in limbo not knowing who our next prime minister is gonna be but it's gonna be Liz pork markets trust. I would say to any of my lefty friends out there or even my loony FBPE types.

The pork markets gag is good. You know anything that drives people from your point of view to look at that speech I guess works but just be aware that all jokes have a shelf life and you don't want that to become the new orange man bad.

I'm sorry if that's a bit Twitter speak but well you know hopefully that as Liz trust gets into power people find some more original things to say about and of course we'll be having a big deep dive on both the announcement and what it all means and a bit of speculation as to how trust is gonna do.

So this is what most people think if you haven't listened to it before it is you know I'm trying to get to the heart of what sort of common public opinion is and of course you know for quite a while on this podcast it via towards you know the conservatives I mean not like the majority of the country but certainly an electoral majority.

I just wonder whether or not you're with me hearing that you increasingly find yourself a little bit dismayed at the state of both parties and I don't want to get into that realm of kind of going well always bad as each other but.

You get the Tories are clearly found themselves in a little bit of a hole but luckily they've taken enough shovels down there to keep digging and then you just look at labor and you go it's just an empty space.

I don't get it. What is what is labor do you not mean labor sort of like do you remember tab clear.

Do you ever that coke from the 90s where you just go it's clear I don't understand it's supposed to be labor it's supposed to be red but it's clear.

That's what labor labor of the tab clear of politics will be discussing all of that and of course Joe likes its prank on the Laura Coonsburg show on Sunday morning a bit of spoiler I mean I laughed at it I laughed at it but we were discussing some of the reaction to that and then some of the reaction when I made a very light hearted joke but just a quick update with me is I went to Chessington I went to Chessington World of Adventures last Thursday and there was a guy I don't know if he listens to the podcast.

He just said to me there was something about a way he said it and you don't even go like that happens to me sometimes but I just fought like I owed him money.

We had a nice photo and then just a shout out I think I can't remember I think the guy's name is Tom and then there was a guy who lives near me that I was out for a run I think he was listening to my podcast at that point.

So in fairness to him that was a weird event to be listening to my podcast and then for me to come running past he might have thought that he could just kind of summon the spirits of comedians by listening to their podcast.

I said a quick hello to him and he said to me that he was surprised that he lives where I lived I said you're fucking surprised mate I'm on telly I thought I'd be doing better.

I've lived in a very nice place and this kid may well live in a mansion but listen like a lot of people who grow up in London I absolutely cannot afford to live there or certainly live in a decent gaff.

You know if you're in that mood now where you just want to hear people of different opinions talk with a little bit of nuance and respect and understanding then do give that one a check and if you don't stick with the anger man get yourself on Twitter that is the place to be.

But we talk about the poet laureate I was talking about the poet laureate and David has done some research on the post of poet laureate in England the post was created in the 17th century inspired by the Roman and Greek tradition.

According to the poetry society the job has no formal description that's a fucking good job isn't it.

In the past laureate was expected to write poetry for Royal events and national occasions what if they're not fucking doing that now this is the problem modern Britain modern Britain I bet this is since covid isn't it you know.

The poet laureate probably got fucking furloughed yeah.

At a taste of a good life then sit at I'm not writing any poetry which is not let's be honest the most taxing job in the world by the way if you are a poet and earning money from it email in but keep it short you know it's like a poetry you know it can outstay it's welcome what most what most people think UK at gmail dot com but as David says this is no longer an official requirement to write poetry for Royal events and national occasions that's astonishing this is why this country is going down.
