The biotech company in bio recently made headlines by announcing that they are on the verge

of creating hypoallergenic house cats.

Can you imagine?

How do they do this, you ask?

By using CRISPR gene editing technology.

As you likely know, cat allergies are triggered by a protein in a cat's saliva.

When the cat cleans itself, it spreads saliva, a fancy word for spit, containing that protein

all over its fur.

The saliva dries and flakes off, we breathe it in, and boom!

Forth-route and a stuffy nose.

In bio, demonstrated their ability to remove bits of DNA at the site of production of this

specific protein called FELD1.

The scientists snipped out the genetic code and the resulting DNA produced almost no FELD1.

Now I'm amazed by this technology, and you know, disappointed that its first application

is for something as superficial as itchy eyes.

If you're allergic to cats, don't have a cat.
