As Democrats consider their future, a host of names have emerged as potential candidates

for President in 2021.

One of those is that of Kirsten Gillibrand, who is the Senator from New York.

She has not added her name to that list in fact, said that she is not on it.

But she is a player in the United States Senate on a variety of issues from family leave to

sexual assault in the military to the opioid epidemic.

She came to the University of Chicago Institute of Politics to address a group of students.

And then we sat down to talk about her life, her career, and the cloud that hangs over

Washington today.

Kirsten Gillibrand, so good to see you.

We just came from a session with students at the University of Chicago at the Institute

of Politics.

And you noted that you said when you were seven years old that you wanted to be a Senator,

which seems a little crazy.

I mean, I have my own crazy stories like that.

But not that crazy because there was politics in your family.

Right.

So I'm sure when I was seven years old, I was thinking of a state Senator because there

were certain state senators whose names I knew at the time.

But I did have this amazing role model in my grandmother who was a larger than life
