The thing is that when the Torah was being put together, probably after the exile from Babylon

0:06.6

after the return, it was being put together primarily under the control, I suspect, of the

0:11.7

priestly tradition. And they put enough for a different vision of God up front in chapter one.

0:19.3

We call it chapter one of Genesis. I'm imagining it like

0:23.0

this is the spectacles that want you to put on before you read this whole Bible. There's no new

0:30.0

testament yet. Because there you have God making human beings in God's own image and likeness.

1:26.2

give your slave a rest.

1:27.9

So Sabbath day, Sabbath year, Sabbath jubilee makes time beat to the rhythm of human justice.

1:37.8

That's what we're told we're supposed to do.

1:39.8

That's our image and likeness.

1:41.1

That's who we're made.

1:42.6

Now, nowhere in that first chapter do I find

1:44.6

any mention of punishment, of sanctions. If you were to say to God in Genesis 1, but what if I don't
