Here's what I told our congregation just a few weeks ago when I preached this year's election sermon.

If I refuse to say things that God has put on my heart to the congregation for fear of losing our tax exempt status, then I'm bowing to government

instead of God. And I can't as a pastor ever bow to government. I have to bow to

God and so sometimes we might be in conflict with human laws but guess what

God's law supersedes human laws wherever there's a conflict we have to defer to

God's law and so I said to defer to God's law.

And so I said to the people, look, I can't bow to government.

And if we end up losing our tax-sum status at some time,

I don't want to, but it's not a sacred cow.

We have to be careful to say what God tells.
