Summary

This episode we're discussing Social Creature by Tara Isabella Burton, a Talented Mr. Ripley story for the digital age. After killing her best friend, the murderer keeps her victim alive through her social media presence.

Looking to avoid spoilers or just not into book eps? Book chat is 12:00 - 33:30.

We're also talking about Grace's trip to Asia (and subsequent jetlag — this week's obsession: Ambien!) and Becca's unexpected trip to Florida. Folks, Florida is certainly no Asia, but there is Chili's and Becca is emotionally eating her way through a family member's illness.

We've also read over 10 books since our last episode, so have lots of new reading recs!

Join us on July 11 for our next book club discussing A Million Junes by Emily Henry.

So awkward. Hi everyone. Welcome to Bad on Paper Podcast. I'm Grace Atwood.

0:21.5

And I'm Becca Freeman. And we're here today for episode 14 to talk to you about social

0:28.0

creature. Yes, this is our remote episode. So I am in Florida and Grace is in New York.

0:34.8

So hopefully the tech stuff works out and we sound like we're in the same room and you don't

0:41.6

even notice. Yeah, we're learning some new skills this week. It's a little depressing here

0:46.3

in Brooklyn because usually I'd be sitting here looking at Becca's pretty face and

0:50.6

instead I'm just sitting here looking at the wall. Well, we're Google Hangouting so you can

0:55.0

pull up the tab and you can still look at my face. I'm in a closet here in Florida because

1:01.3

my friend Rachel told me that that's good for sound acoustics. So yeah, it's a little awkward.

1:09.3

Yeah, it's a little weird but we're doing our best. It's been a challenging couple weeks for Becca.

1:15.5

Yeah. And I was in Asia. So this episode, so when the last episode from last

1:24.6

Wednesday, we actually recorded about two weeks ago before Grace left for Asia because we wanted

1:30.5

to give ourselves a little time. So in real life time, it's been like two and a half weeks,

1:36.1

even though in podcast time it's only been like a week and a couple days. So we're a little

1:42.4

late with this episode. I've been I've been having a shitty month about six hours before

1:54.0

our flight to Asia. I found out that my uncle who is like a father to me was in the hospital and so

2:03.0

canceled my trip and I've been in Florida, which is where he lives ever since. And things are not

2:10.4

awesome. So sorry, we're late, but I have a good excuse and I don't really care if you think it's a good excuse.

2:23.8

Should we get into it? Yeah, let's get into it. Highs and lows. Tell me your highs, Grace. I'm just

2:33.2

living through other people's highs right now. My high was definitely Asia, even though I was alone,

2:38.8

which was terrifying at first, but I figured it out. So that goes without saying Asia was amazing.

2:45.5

I have I'll put travel guides up on my blog and whatnot. Okay, I have a couple follow-up questions.
