Welcome to Talking Scripture, I'm Mike.

I'm Bryce and today we are going to be in section 135 and 136 of the Doctrine Covenants.

This is the announcement of the martyrdom of the Prophet Joseph Smith.

So we're going to do a little bit of history that led up to that moment and then we're

just going to praise to the man who communed with Jehovah.

And the church has asked us to cover 136 as well, which is way forward in winter quarter.

So we're going to go from the martyrdom of Joseph Smith in June of 44.

And then we're going to jump to the winner of 46, 47.

So Brigham is going to leave Navu early on in February, ish of 46.

It'll take them most of the summer to get across Iowa.

And they conclude that there's no way they're going to make it to the Rocky Mountains because

of that.

So they camp at Council Bluff, Iowa right there on the Nebraska Iowa border.

And we now call that winter quarters.

And somewhere in their stay at winter quarters, the Lord reveals 136.

So let's do that first because we'd really like to end this podcast, paying tribute to

the Prophet Joseph and let 135 be our culmination.
