My name is Philip Kulenshov and this is 300 seconds about business.

We're all a busy people, so I'm five minutes or less to get my point across.

And five more, or one more. I've been talking about leadership in the last couple

episodes. Specifically, what is required of the leader in order to lead others? What must the person

possess or provoke in order to have people follow him,

especially if he can't give them an immediate return on their effort, whether it's

immediate ROI for an investor or a lucrative paycheck for an employee.

The ability to lead others boils down to three things, the person, the focus, and the skill.

In order to lead others, you must be present with a character of gravitas.

The presence of a substantive character draws people in.

And it requires you to be going somewhere so that people can follow you to where you're going.

The person has gravitas and he's focused on the vision. And now as to the

skill, what is the essential ability, competency that a leader must excel at in order to lead

effectively? If you're in a position where you have to rally others

towards a future vision and if you were to hone your effort to get really good at one

thing, what should that one thing be? Their critical competency that every leader must excel at if he is to have people follow him on his journey is communication. The power of words.

Having real substance that attracts others and a vision that you're working towards is absolutely necessary if you are to get anywhere yourself

But if you need people to do it with you if your undertaking requires that others join, then you must be able to not just see the vision for yourself, but paint that future reality in such a way as to have others want it realized.
