Hello and welcome to Business 300.

My name is Philip Kulenshov and this is 300 seconds about business.

We're all a busy people, so I'm five minutes or less to get my point across.

Another five on leadership. The previous episode kicked off the question

what is required in order to lead others? What must a person possess or

provoke in order to have people follow him, especially if he can't give them an immediate

return on their effort, whether it's an immediate ROI for an investor or a lucrative paycheck

for an employee.

The ability to lead others boils down to three things, the person, the focus, and the skill.

I briefly summarize what's needed in the person.

In order to lead others, you must be present with a character of gravitas. The presence of a

substantive character draws people in. I'd say being the right person is at least

half the work of leadership. Half is a big portion, but it's not everything. Much is still missing. Two more things are necessary.

The second has to do with the focus one must have if he is to lead others.

The leader is focused on the future vision. The leader is someone who knows where he's going, knows how he wants to get there, and is making progress in that direction whether or not he has others helping him.

The leader is obsessed with the vision.

He is building his future reality.

One can have gravitas, a substantive character that draws others in

and still not be going anywhere.

The leader is one who cares enough that the world he's living in today is not like what he wants to be living in
