Great conversation with my NZ pal Warren Matthews on a new way to enhance energy levels and slow aging - it's getting more and more press in recent years. It involves NAD+, the crucial component in our physiology that declines hugely with age, along with increasing DNA damage. Here we go through the basics and find out what Warren is doing about it!

0:00.0 | Welcome to the Fat Emperor podcast. |
0:05.0 | I'm your host, Ivor Cummins. |
0:07.0 | Hey all, today we have a very interesting discussion on NADH and NAD Plus, which you may have heard in the last couple of years it's becoming all the age. |
0:18.0 | In fact, David Sinclair was on Joe Rogan just the other day again talking about this |
0:23.1 | and other anti-aging interventions. |
0:25.6 | And he has been on several times before. |
0:27.6 | So I might add in some clips here when I'm editing this. |
0:30.6 | There are two molecules in the body that are really great. |
0:32.6 | You need both for life. |
0:33.6 | And without them, as I said, you're dead. |
0:35.6 | ATP is the energy and NAD makes that. |
0:38.3 | And as we get older, the levels of NAD go down, our body makes less and actually also |
0:43.3 | degrades it more. So if you take my skin, or in the study that they took people's skin, |
0:49.3 | when you're 50, you've got half the levels of this NAD that you did than you did when you're 20, which is scary because this is this molecule is required for life without it. We're dead in 30 seconds |
0:58.5 | So what we're doing with our clinical trials is giving a precursor a smaller version of this that the body will turn into NAD and bring those levels back up from |
1:07.5 | Where they are when you're old to where you are when you're young. |
1:14.5 | And we see at least in animals and hopefully in people that it revs up their metabolism and makes them fight aging and disease like we do when we're young. |
1:19.9 | I mean, there's a reason we don't get a lot of heart disease when we're young or Alzheimer's |
1:23.6 | because our bodies fight against diseases. |
1:25.7 | We get older and especially if we sit around or smoke and don't exercise, our bodies just give up. We get older, and especially if we sit around or smoke |
1:28.3 | and don't exercise, our bodies just give up. |
1:30.3 | That's very exciting. |
