Summary

Here at Hot Marriage. Cool Parents. we love finding guests to motivate us to be better spouses, partners, friends, parents, and the list goes on. We are always looking for people with who we really resonate, and Nate and Kaley Klemp are definitely one of those couples! Nate Klemp, Ph.D, and his wife Kaley have impressive education degrees behind their names. Nate received a Ph.D. from Princeton University and Kaley has a Masters in Sociology from Stanford University. Nate is a founding partner of the company, Mindful, and Kaley has been featured on TedX. Despite their skills in education, they often find themselves disagreeing about fairness in marriage, so they worked together to come up with a new model that is grounded on radical generosity and shared success and put those ideas in a book called The 80/80 Marriage. We sometimes struggle with this idea of fairness, especially with Doug becoming a stay-at-home dad, which is why we are SUPER excited to talk to Nate & Kaley allll about this! Before Nate & Kaley come on, Doug tells a crazy story about their day at the circus museum and gives an update on their plans to go back to New Jersey. 12:35 - Welcome to HMCP, Nate & Kaley! Can you share how you met? 13:40 - You talk about in your book and in interviews that there was a sort of "breaking point" in your marriage. Could you tell us a little bit about that and the point where you decided something had to give or something had to change? 16:23 - Is it as easy as a mathematical percentage? 23:07 - What were some of the steps that you guys took to get back on the right track? 24:38 - Could you share a little bit about radical generosity? 29:35 - During your research, was there anything else that was sort of eye-opening for you guys? 36:18 - So if there's a spouse that wants change, they recognize this change, but their partner is kind of selfish and refuses to see any of the issues - what advice do you have for that person? 39:46 - What's some advice that you would give to help couples improve on that control or if someone is struggling with letting go of control? 43:16 - What are some of the things that you guys recommend for couples that are just getting annoyed with each other? 48:59 - For any couples that are listening and realizing that they have some work to do, what would be a good 1st practical step forward? 50:50 - What was the radical gratitude that worked in your relationship moving forward? 53:11 - What are some of your favorite challenges to do live? Chat again with you guys soon!
