Martin Taylor is the CEO of Fishing Game New Zealand,

a non-profit organization focused on managing, maintaining,

and enhancing sportfish, game birds, and their habitats.

They receive no government or taxpayer money relying solely on income from fishing and hunting

license sales.

In this episode of Ancred, I meet with Martin to discuss the sustainability of New Zealand's trout fisheries,

the cost of doing business, and whether tourists are loving the country to death.

My job is to service to New Zealand Council, which is the peak body for Fish and Game in New Zealand.

There's 12 regions and we organize, manage reform, or try to reform the 12 regions that make up what is

fishing game across the country.

So when you say fishing game, that's primarily birds and fish but not not

game like not deer or not tar. The name is slightly it should be fish and game

birds so we don't do tar or deer. So essentially our mandate is to

represent and promote trout salmon and game birds of which we've got a number.

Who manages the big game?

That's the big game animal council

and that's recently been set up.

It's only I think about five years old.
