Summary

When I first found Kate Kennedy's podcast Be There in Five, I just wanted Taylor Swift analysis. But I stayed for her series on Mommy Bloggers. Then I couldn't get enough of her pop culture commentary, hilarious tangents, and well-researched episodes about everything I wanted to talk about (that other people weren't talking about). I also texted every podcast friend I have to ask, "Have you seen what Kate Kennedy is doing?" Because her show was defying all the rules. Be There in Five's episodes are often 2+ hours long, and mostly solo. It was empowering to watch a woman unapologetically take up so much space with her words and ideas and air time. AND be smart and funny on top of it. So I was beyond excited to have this conversation with Kate about leaning into your skillset, finding your own personal "football game," and what "being authentic" means when you're one person online and another with your family. I stumbled upon Kate Kennedy's podcast, Be There in Five, a few summers ago when I was looking for a deep dive on Taylor Swift. Don't exactly

1:16.3

remember what drama that I was thirsty for but I think I wanted to know more about

1:20.8

the loss of her original masters to Scooter Braun and I wanted to

1:25.4

hear someone talk about Taylor in a smart way that wasn't total fan girl and

1:31.7

also wasn't total disdain. So Kate Kennedy entered my life when I

1:39.2

binged her multiple episodes with Taylor Analysis that were thoughtfully researched and super

1:46.8

insightful, really hilarious, and also they were two plus hours long.

1:56.7

Many, many hours of Kate talking into the microphone alone

2:02.4

and I was absolutely blown away because I've been in

2:06.4

podcasting for years by this time and I always follow podcast trends and I read the how to podcast articles and Kate was doing

2:17.3

something that I didn't see a single other woman doing. She was taking up space. Her episodes were

2:28.6

unapologetically long. She left in the tangents. Sometimes the best stuff was in the tangents.

2:35.0

And from the outside it just looked like she was doing what she liked.

It's that simple, but like that's amazing.
