Dave drew lyrical inspiration from a common theme that he's witnessed throughout his life from a number of friends and used it to base the story of the song around

When he began writing Devour, he initially thought that it was going to be the next loved ones album, which was Dave's band just previous to embarking on a solo career.

At that point he had one solo album under his belt, but was unsure if he was even going to do another one.

As fate would have it, a series of crazy events happened,

and he was able to put together an all-star cast of musicians

and producers to make the record happen.

Dave went on to tell a funny story about playing the track for Matt Skeba and asking his opinion of it.

He didn't follow Matt's advice, but now wishes he had.

And the amount of people that Dave and I have in common that we've separately crossed paths with over the last 10 years is astounding.
