Ohio rock band Reliant Kay.

Matt and I take the plunge and break down their breakout single, Be My Escape, taken from their 2004 and first major label album?

I mention the math that this is one of the more interesting songs I've broken down on this show.

The arrangement is grandiose, unorthodox, and has more twists

and turns than you can count. He explained that was the idea going in to not write predictable

songs with formulaic arrangements, and man did they succeed in not doing so. The

track sits at four minutes but feels half as long, something I chalk up to

innovative and great songwriting. I mention to Matt that drummer Dave Douglas shines on this

track. His placement and feel within the song makes it completely stand out among the

majority of other pop and punk bands of that era. Matt refers to co-producer Mark Lee Townsend as another member of

Reliant Kay, a trust and a bomb that has been nurtured for going on three decades.
