I am increasingly interested not on what people think but in how they think and when we think of history

particularly here in the United States we tend to view it as a straight line picture

a railroad from the colonies to the Industrial Revolution to

modern society to Star Trek. It's this kind of progressive build from one

stage to another or maybe it's more like a roller coaster but that's still a

straight line or at least it's an

A B track right but there's a much older way of looking at how history

unfolds that's not linear that's to think of it as cyclical and that way of

thinking history is more like seasons and those seasons repeat.

In a moment, I'm going to bring on Neil Howe to talk about generational theory and the idea

that America has four types of generations which keep repeating.

And incidentally the term my generation has, millennial, was coined by Mr. Howe.
