And another great day in this greatest nation on God's Green Earth, though I'll tell you,

it's not a great day for the Congress of the United States. In fact, I think the only thing

right now that could be more depressing than being a member of Congress, either an incoming member of Congress, a new member of Congress,

or somebody who's carrying on.

And the only thing could be more depressing than being a member of Congress and trying to struggle to keep the government open past tomorrow night.

I mean, that's what we're talking about. The only thing more depressing than that

is having to talk about it. We're not going to talk about just that, though that is a very,

very key issue. And it's also a key issue where there are now serious voices, two U.S.

senators who think that the new speaker of the House should be

Elon Musk. And many people are talking about Elon Musk as acting president. They're talking

about the top-level meeting last night for dinner with Elon Musk, of course, together with Donald Trump and also

Musk's one-time rival, Jeff Bezos, and his fiancé, Lauren Sanchez. They all dined with Trump

at Mara Lago. And they could celebrate their success in

blowing up the compromise bill, the bipartisan bill that had been agreed to to keep the government

open. That's gone now. It's not happening. So what do you see? You see

large press focus on the question. When is the government shut down deadline? What will the

government shut down mean?

The one thing to keep in mind about this is there is no history, none, of a successful government shutdown, of shutting down the government, oh, and therefore you were able to

get something through Congress that you weren't able to get before.

All of this is complex and important, not quite as important perhaps as the struggle to keep the economy healthy.

And one of the threats to the health of the economy has to do with the tariff war.
