Summary

No one had seen 8-year-old Relisha Rudd for weeks before she was finally reported missing in March of 2014. So where was she? Why did it take so long for anyone to notice? And who was to blame? Today’s episode explores what can happen when the systems built to protect families just — *don’t*. Please be aware that today’s story contains references to suicide, gun violence, child abuse, and housing insecurity. A full list of sources, resources mentioned, and photos related to the case are available in the show notes of today's episode, https://truercrimepodcast.com/relisha-rudd/ Love Truer Crime and want to support our work? Hi, friends. Before we start today's story, I want to let you in on a not-so-secret

0:04.2

secret. Making a podcast like True Crime is a lot of work. Like a full-time job on top

0:10.1

of my other full-time job. It's a lot. And those are just the unpaid hours. I also have a small

0:16.0

team that commits tons of paid hours to this project. And beyond labor, making a podcast is

really expensive. Honestly, I really didn't understand how expensive it would be until I was

0:26.9

knee-deep. And at that point, I was going for the thing. So, I mean, I'm recording in my

I just want to be real with you about what it takes to create a project like this one.

Durality is working for free and self-funding. It's really not going to be sustainable for

0:56.8

us in the long run. And we really want to make True Crime sustainable. So, if you really like

True Crime and you believe in the importance of our work, I have a quick question.

that allows you to help us keep doing True Crime. The best part about Patreon is that even a small

1:15.7

contribution has a direct impact on our ability to make episodes in the future. For $5 a month,

1:21.1

you'd be directly supporting everything that goes into making an episode of True Crime.

1:24.8

From the time it takes to research and write each episode to the production equipment and the

1:28.5

editor who helps make each episode sound really good, even though we record in a closet.

1:33.7

And even the marketing materials to help us spread the word about these stories,

1:36.8

your contribution supports all of this. And as a thank you, we'll be uploading extras and behind
