0:00.0	In 2014, I went down to Houston to write a story about the worst Major League Baseball team in 50 years.
0:09.0	It was hard to be a member of that club, if you will, and just not be kind of disappointed or heartbroken.
0:17.0	It was just no good news.
0:20.0	The Astros were terrible, but what I saw was an organization with a plan to get better,
0:25.2	led by a visionary general manager who sought out every last competitive edge he could find.
0:30.8	Had you ever been around anybody like him in baseball?
0:33.9	Never. Never. Never.

0:38.5	So I made a bold prediction on the cover of Sports Illustrated that the Astros were about to turn it around,
0:44.5	and they were going to win the World Series exactly three years later in 2017.
0:50.7	And right on schedule, they actually did.
0:57.3	Some people started calling me Astrodomis,
1:01.7	and I published a book called Astroball, The New Way to Win It All.
1:07.6	But then, late last year, a bomb dropped on baseball and on me.
1:13.0	It turned out the new way to win might have involved the oldest way,
1:14.0	cheating.
1:18.1	Every time I would throw a change up,
1:21.4	I would come set and I would hear a bang.
1:23.7	As the scandal grew,
1:26.3	it seemed like the Astro's pursuit of an edge had pushed them over it. How did I miss this?
