Hey there. I am Gary Parrish. Welcome back to the Ion College basketball podcast here on CBS Sports Network, where we sometimes discuss camel fighting Dodo Birds and leaky black.

0:23.9

Matt Norlander is here with me and we'll both be here with you for the next hour, catching you up on how things are unfolding in the sport this off season.

0:32.2

Let's start with a big headline from the week.

0:35.2

Ruben Chinula is withdrawn from the NBA draft and returning to the University of Florida,

0:40.7

which means the Gators are now projected to return six of the top seven scores from a team that won the SEC by three games last season.

0:48.9

It was the number one seed in the 2006 NCAA tournament.

0:52.2

They are right now, number one in my top 25 and one over at CBSSports.com.

0:58.0

Norlander, good to see you on a Friday.

0:59.7

My first question for you, is there even an argument for anybody else to be number one other

1:05.9

than the Florida Gators at this point?

1:09.5

GP, great to be with you.

1:10.8

Happy to be back on CBS Sports Network.

1:13.0

A fun little change up and check in here.

1:15.7

There's an argument only in the realm of we haven't had a preseason number one team

1:22.3

wind up as the actual end of season number one team as the national champion since

1:26.4

North Carolina did it in the 2008-2009 season. I've got more on that Carolina team in just a second. So there's an argument based on that. Like the team that people think will be number one has not been the best team for well over a decade, going gone close to two decades at this point. So that is your argument in favor of it. But when you look around the sport and you look at the other rosters that are out there and the teams that are populating, you're specifically,

1:47.6

you know, your preseason top five, top 10. There's some good competitors. But I think Florida has to be

1:53.9

the most practical and rational pick to be number one because this was a team that was a one seat

2:00.7

a season ago. It was a team

2:02.6

that had the best front court in the country and those players were all coming back. It was a team

2:07.3

that featured the defensive player of the year in Chinilu. And now his decision is official.

2:12.4

Like Todd Golden, that staff, they were very much expecting this to be the way that it went.
