Summary

In 2020 I wrote my first book, “The Nomadic Wealth Formula” where I laid out what was at the time, my general thoughts on how someone can create more freedom and fulfillment for themselves by building a business that wasn’t location dependent.

Since then the concept has become more refined in my mind and today I’d like to explore a concept I’m calling Entrepreneurial Minimalism. If you have a business or are thinking of starting one I think you’re really going to enjoy this episode.

Well, what's up my friends? This is the Jason Stapleton program, the entrepreneurial podcast that breaks down the skills you need to start and grow a business that creates more wealth and freedom for you.

0:11.0

That sounds like your jam. Let's get started.

0:15.0

Hey, what's up everybody? Happy Monday. Microphone's on.

0:21.0

Every time we come, we started doing, we do the pre-show and again this morning my mic wasn't on and that's why I'm glad we do, we do the little conversation that you and I have beforehand because that we work out all the kinks.

0:36.0

Then we come in here and look super professional.

0:39.0

Yeah, it's been a while since you, there was a string there, you know, four or five, six months ago, where you were, you were very bad at turn on the microphone.

0:46.0

This is the first time. Let's not make it a habit again.

0:49.0

I don't think that, here's the thing, I don't think people realize how much I have to kind of like manage here because we've got comments that are up for the people who are listening live and I've got a switcher here on my left that I manage with that and then we've got music intro that we play and I have to bring the overlays in and out and I manage in all of that on my side.

1:07.0

And it's not anything you can't manage but it's just it's a lot of moving pieces all at once and every once in a while I muted something somewhere and forgot that I did it because it's not just the show we do, you know, I've got every, every Wednesday we have the cohort meeting every Tuesday I've office hours for for my higher in coaching clients and

1:28.0

and then interviews so Friday would in an interview with a with a great guest Dennis who is awesome is interview is going to be on the 28th is when that's going to play.

1:38.0

And just fascinating guy and great story inspirational story for all you guys who are thinking about starting a business he's actually guy who got laid off from his job about five years ago and I met him on Twitter and he just we took a chance he said you know what I could go get another corporate job but

1:57.0

is it his wife encouraged him just to take some time to build a business and to try and make it work and that's what they did and now he runs he runs a one person business making really good money his wife recently I think is going to start a company as well now that they sort of figured it out they're going to join a company together and it's one of those stories where you listen to it and you just go why am I why am I not doing that and I hope that that's what you'll take away is that hey it's it's it's better not to wait until you

2:26.9

get the pink slip it's best to not wait until you are until you're completely down and out before you make the decision it's never too early to start building an audience that's the what we're doing all this month in the cohort is just focusing on how do we attract how do we connect with

2:42.9

people who are going to be highly interested in the stuff that we want to talk about in the areas where we can help and you can do that at any stage and it costs you nothing.

2:54.9

You know and so I want to encourage you guys to start that now the biggest the biggest problem I see for most people is is trying to come up with some some thing to talk about which I think is funny because the the inferences that you have to know or you have to get it right the first time.

3:14.9

Yes, if you were to go borrow money from small business administration and release office space or restaurant space and put the menu together and all this stuff and invest you know hundreds of thousands of dollars and take on hundreds of thousands of dollars more in debt.

3:30.9

Yeah, you probably need to get that right the first time but when you're going out and having conversations with people and talking with them about some different things that you're interested in you don't have to get that right the first time.

3:41.9

You can get that wrong multiple times you can start talking about something in three or four weeks later you realize you know what I really don't have this is not that interesting I don't really want to talk about this and you can switch gears.

3:52.9

And then other people say the other big objection I get from folks is that they'll say it's not objection just a clarification is well I got like three or four things that I really love talking about and so I don't really know what I should focus on.

4:06.9

And it was funny because that was one of the questions that came up in our first cohort meeting and I said you know what guys I said here's the thing is like I have lots of interests.

4:14.9

I have a lot of interest in about politics and business I really like human behavior and the study of human behavior psychology I do a lot with a film and video stuff I love that stuff as well.

4:29.9

Right now I just found a new YouTube channel that I really love that talks about storytelling and film and I think there's a direct correlation a translation from storytelling and film to storytelling and writing and the type of storytelling that we do to move people from just knowing about us retention grabbing to actually bring making them clients.
