For years, she's been acting on TV shows like Call the Midwife and The Crown, and writing on shows like Killing Eve.

But she first really shot to prominence two awards seasons ago with her feature writing and directorial debut promising young woman.

The story of a young woman haunted by and seeking to avenge the sexual assault that led

to the suicide of her best friend years earlier. For it, she became the first female

British filmmaker ever nominated for the best director Oscar. The film itself was

also nominated for Best Picture, and she ultimately took home the best original screenplay Oscar.
