Hey, folks, Scott Weingard here, and this is an M-Crit podcast. Today, we're going to talk about

airway stuff. In fact, specifically, we're going to talk about Krikstuff, and you know how

much I love Krikstuff. It's Krikstuff, but it's also central airway obstruction, so it's going to be

an interesting little grab bag of airway topics. And what sparked this episode is my buddy, Rich Levitan, who will be the guest for this show.

If you don't know Rich Levitan, then you're probably not in emergency medicine. Rich is one of the

absolute pioneers in emergency airway management. He was an ED doc who did not like his

airway skills and was scared of airways, so he decided to get really good at them.

He invented the airway cam, which at the time before video laryngoscopy was the only way

you had anatomy-accurate visions of the airway from the perspective of an intubator rather than

a perspective of a camera. And it was really game-changing for learning. He created one of the

best courses in airway management, which he still teaches to this day,

using cadavers and allowing a enormous amount of practice runs.

And we'll talk about that towards the end of the show.

And he's a buddy.

He's fantastic, just wonderful, warm, amazing guy, storied life. So you'll hear from Rich shortly.

But the stuff I want to talk about as a preliminary is a few thoughts from Nicholas Crimes' Safe Airway Society session on surgical airway called Scalpel versus Scalpel. And I'll explain what that means in

just a moment. First, a little pitch for a conference I'm speaking in. And then we'll get to the show.
