I'm very pleased to be joined by Elizabeth Vargas, an American journalist, a news anchor,

and more importantly, an inspiration to many, many millions of people out there with her courage,

perseverance, tenacity.

How did it feel to be back in the anchor chair?

It was great, you know.

I had not done sort of the daily news grind

in several years, the last 15 years, I was at ABC.

I was the anchor of 2020.

I replaced Barbara Walters in that job

and loved doing documentary work. And then after I left

ABC, I did a lot of documentary work. I started a syndicated show called Eye Crime, which we just

launched season two of. And I got the call. You know, do you want to come back and and anchor a

weeknight show at this brand new cable news network that literally is only a few

months old called News Nation. And I thought real hard about it. And honestly, it is such an

historic news cycle right now that we're going through that I thought, you know what? I'm going to

dive back in for a few more years and cover the daily news.

And it's just been, wow, what a wild ride.

You know, we are really living through some historical moments right now.

And I'm really excited to be reporting on it.

How do you think about this moment in the context of history over a career that we're roughly the same age,

that the dominant events in it were the collapse of the Berlin Wall politically and then the attacks

on 9-11. And we have lived long enough to see a moment where a former
