This week we take a break from our close chapter reads, and usually when I take a break from the minutia of this series,

I like to do a big picture, canvas stretching conversation about something that relates to Game of Thrones but isn't necessarily about Game of Thrones.

And I had an idea to talk about Machiavelli with Philip Happerkern from Boston University who teaches a class on Game of Thrones but requires his students to read Machiavelli's The Prince.

And I had never read the Prince from start to finish before.

So I reached out to Phil and he said, yeah, he'd be happy to do it.

So I popped on the audiobook for the Prince, took about four and a half hours, but I've now read the Prince by Machiavelli and ready to talk about with Phil.

This is just another example of why I enjoyed doing this podcast so much.

Machiavelli's The Prince is a really important bit of literature that I probably would have never taken the time to read otherwise.

Before we get to Phil, I ought to mention that I'm going to be taking a break from Electric Boogaloo for just a few weeks, just a little hiatus between seasons 13 and 14, probably three or four weeks and we'll pick up again with Clash of Kings.
