So today I'm going to be doing an election special, an episode all about election

24, which is coming up in just a couple of days. Tuesday, November 5th is the big day. And there is

a lot at stake. It's a big election. And I realize that every time there's a presidential

election in particular, the politicians involved will almost certainly tell you that the stakes are very high

and that it's the most important election in the history of elections. But with this one,

in my lifetime anyway, and I also think within the broader context of American history,

this is an unusually significant election in terms of the fate of the Republic. It does not feel like

hyperbole to me to say that. And I think that the stakes are so high and so dramatic that it's

almost hard to admit it or talk about it too much because if you get into the weeds with

this stuff and you really start to obsess, it can be hard to carry on with your day-to-day

responsibilities.
