I'm Ben Dominic.

Obviously, an enormous number of things has happened since the last time that I spoke to you all.

We've seen in many ways some of the most significant events in our political history in this 21st century happen over the last week.

The former President of the United States survived an assassination attempt, the first one of its nature, in more than 40 years,

against a current or former president, something that jarred the people who were around it

and obviously has resulted in a number of questions being raised about the United States

Secret Service and its role in protecting the former president.

You saw the White House admit for the first time that they ought to have provided greater security to Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., acknowledging that they were going to offer that in what seems to be an admission of spite.

You saw an interview with the current president, Joe Biden, in which he meandered and seemed to have difficulty answering questions, even in a pre-taped and comfortable environment.

He's also engaged in a number of behaviors since then that seemed to be

rousing once again the effort to remove him from leading the ticket in the fall. And of course,

you saw the selection of the vice presidential nominee by Donald Trump in J.D. Vance, the young senator from Ohio, with very

little political experience or electoral experience, but a compelling personal story and someone

who definitely doubles down on the kind of populist politics of Donald Trump. So let's dig

into all of these issues and talk through a bit of what's happened in the

past several days.

It hasn't even been a week.

First off, I think that it's important to talk about what happened in the Butler,

Pennsylvania situation, the rally that saw the attempted attack on Donald Trump

that ultimately shot a piece of his ear off, had him in that iconic stance in terms of a photo

that immediately entered the American Pantheon.
