Our guest is Dr Kathleen Neal, whose new book is the letters of Edward I, political

communication in the 13th century.

letters of Edward I can tell us about the king as a man and the ways that he ruled.

No problem at all.

So we're talking about Edward I and specifically his letters.

Edward I, reigned in England from 1272 to 1307.

He's famous as the hammer of the Scots for his campaigns north of the border, also notable

for campaigning in Wales and building a lot of castles there, but maybe not so well known

as an epistolary figure.

So an interesting line you've got here.

So we're talking about letters.

And we just started off by talking about letters generally was letter writing a regular

occupation in the 13th century.
