complicated story. I'll try to summarize it.

My father, when I was in my teenage years,

was overweight and sickly.

And he started reading books from Herbert Shelton,

from the American Natural Hygiene Society,

who wrote most of his books, I think, in the 40ss and 50s and so my father brought this way of eating into our home and we kind of thought he was nuts at the be you know early on but then the exposure to all these people eating so healthfully

watching them transform their health and him improving his health had an effect on us when we were teenagers and I was on the United States world figure skating team

I was competing as a competitive athlete always looking to better our stamina and strength but also not wanting to get ill to miss training or to you know know, not be able to, you know, being able
