And this week we are reading, Alone with Me, the 1976 memoir of singer, actress, and just

overall icon and superstar, Ertha Kit. You might know Ertha from her performance of the

1953 Christmas classic Santa Baby, or as Catwoman from the final season of the campaign 1960s TV series Batman,

or my favorite Earth a Kit credit, where she is a villain in the Emperor's New Groove,

and they really formulated that character to kind of look like her.

So now that you know that it's Earth of Kitt, I'm sure it's going to click.

She was also an activist in the civil rights movement.

She was there for women's rights, LGBTQIA plus rights,

and she was publicly against the Vietnam War,

which led to a massive career block from Lady Bird Johnson in the White House,

which we are going to get into.

Now, in 1956,

Eartha published her first memoir called Thursday's Child, which was about her childhood and

early career. And in 1976, she published her second memoir, which is the one we are reading

today titled Alone with Me. And I want to do a quick trigger warning here. We're going

we were researching old Hollywood memoirs. And there's a New Yorker article titled The Art of

Hollywood memoir by Rachel Syme. And she recommended this book by saying, Eartha Kitt's Balsey book is worth reading

for the acknowledgments section alone.
