I know we don't have a lot of time tonight, and there's a lot of material here to cover.

I'm going to do this really informally. I have not written this out, so I am going to just

plunge right in and try to stop when I can and tell you what you're looking at.

So this slide of this mosaic

comes from a baptistry. It's a sixth century baptistry. As I said, it's in Tunisia today. It was in

the Roman Africa province at the time. And it's a very typical way of emphasizing the idea

that the one who comes for baptism is like the

deer longing for streams of water.

And we think in many places in the ancient world, this is the kind of psalm that would

have been sung by the candidates coming for baptism.
